Name: Elizabeth Donnelly
Age: 50 (DOB 30/05/1959 – yes, I’m aware this is about ten years younger than canon.)
Background: Liz’s childhood was perfectly pleasant. She was born to parents of money, so of course she had everything she could possibly need. As a seven year old, Elizabeth – as she was only ever known – declared that ballet was for princesses, and she wanted to be a prince, so she hung up her ballet shoes for good. Her parents were often busy, leaving Liz to be raised mostly by her nanny. Through her later years of high school she began to reject her parents’ authority and lightly rebel against them. Her father wanted her to study medicine, so she chose law. Her mother insisted she present her at a debutante ball, so she lost her virginity to one of the waiters half an hour before she was presented in her pure white dress.
She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Yale University in 1983 and went straight to work for the New York City District Attorney's Office. She gained the notice of her superiors quickly and although she came up against some resistance (the DA’s office was still stuck in the dark ages and was very much an old boys club) she soon made quite a name for herself. In 2005 she was appointed to the Bench, Criminal Division, Manhattan District Court.
Liz often comes across as brusque and demanding. She knows what she wants and she goes after it. Behind the hard exterior there is a passionate and compassionate woman. She will go to the wall for what she believes in and people she cares for, but isn’t too proud to admit when she has made a mistake – although that is a rare occurrence. She was married from 1983 - 1986, but she has never been fantastic at personal relationships and her marriage dissolved when she focused more on her career. Now that she has been appointed to the bench she finds herself having more time to focus on other things in her life, including relationships. She identifies as bisexual, but she has found herself drawn mostly to women in the past ten years.
